FAQs

What does a sleep consultant actually do?

A sleep consultant supports parents, caretakers, families, and/or communities by providing education and guidance to healthy and safe sleep.

Why would I want to use a CERTIFIED sleep consultant?

A certified sleep consultant is one that has completed training, passed an exam and possible observation and/or practical hours. This shows that they have had diverse training and are not only using their own personal experience or anecdotal advice.

The program that I received my certification from taught an evidence based approach and follows the direction of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Why should I pay for a sleep consultation when I can find a lot of free information on Instagram and social media?

Great question! I would guess that if you have landed on this website you are looking for more information or a way to help solve your baby’s sleep problems. Maybe you have been looking on Instagram and found a lot of great and helpful information but it’s still not helping you reach your goal. Using a certified sleep consultant can provide you with a specific and specialized plan for your baby and family. It also provides you the opportunity to ask specific questions and provide specific information about your child or family dynamic giving you the best opportunity for success.

Doesn’t sleep training mean you just let your baby cry all night long until they put themselves to sleep?

No! There are sleep training methods that can have minimal crying with regular caretaker support and check-ins in addition to the more popular/known cry it out (CIO) methods. Babies cry as their form of communication, so there is always some crying involved when working with babies, but our goal is to understand the cry before responding.

How do I know if I need a sleep consultant or sleep training?

If your baby is struggling with consistent sleep, naps, safe sleep, separation anxiety at bedtime, getting enough sleep you might benefit from the support of a sleep consultant. If your google search is filled with when or why is my baby…. then you might benefit from some expert advice. Sometimes having the support of an expert will give you the confidence to make and stick to small (or large) adjustments to scheduling, nutrition, bedtime routines or even their sleep environment to helping baby sleep better. I am happy to offer a free discovery call to find out more about your situation and see if we feel like we would be a good fit to work together on your family’s sleep.

  • What our clients say...

We cannot thank Rachel and Fear Not Sleep Consulting enough! Our little one was 11-months-old and wasn’t sleeping independently nor through the night and waking early. Now, she is sleeping through the night in her crib in her own room. The process was so much easier than we ever imagined. Everything was done in such a stress-free, gentle, and comforting way that gave us so much peace of mind as parents. The support and guidance we received made all the difference — no more sleepless nights for us or our little one! We highly recommend Rachel and Fear Not Sleep Consulting to any parent struggling with sleep. Truly life-changing!- Kate

All about me

My name is Rachel Blocker, I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia with my sister Sarah and parents; Leona and Bob. As a young adult I attended Penn State (WE ARE!) where I earned my associates degree in hospitality management. After college I settled in Cape May, New Jersey where I worked and managed restaurants and hotels. Looking for a little more stability, I moved into a job with Whole Foods Markets, in their leadership training program. In 2017 an opportunity with Whole Foods brought me to Atlanta, Georgia. This is where my career grew from department to store and regional leadership across multiple teams. This move also grew my personal life since this is where I met my now husband, Jordan. We were married in 2020 (yes, during Covid) which led to us settling in the beautiful North Georgia mountains. We live there with our children, Kai and Talia, and our pets; Ellie Jo, Trixie, Rascal and Stinky Face.

After my son was born, I left my job to focus on our family. After many nights of little to no sleep with our son, Kai, I did some research on sleep training. I was desperate for help. It was a relief to have some insight and guidance on how to reclaim our evenings and get more than 3 or 4 hours of rest in a night. Sleep is such an important part of our overall well-being, and effects everything from our health and mood to our amount (or lack) of patience. I was feeling exhausted, angry, and frustrated which started taking a toll on my marriage and family. After making some schedule, environment and other small adjustments, Kai was set up for more successful sleep, and it was amazing! I started to feel like a new person after getting more consistent and restful sleep, which helped me be a better person, wife and mother. When we found out we were pregnant with our daughter, Talia, I knew we were better prepared to handle the challenges that come with a new baby and sleep.

I believe I am called to help and serve others whether it be with food, beverages, knowledge, or encouragement. I’m passionate about helping families get better sleep because it made such a difference in my and my family’s lives.
